we missed the big fireworks display, but i’m ok with that. at 1am i could hear teenagers letting some off at the elementary school near us and i pulled the bedsheets up over my head and wished that they would stop. and i thought about all the times i was obnoxious and loud on public holidays, even ones involving fireworks, and i apologized in my head to all the parents and small children and animals that i probably annoyed. and then i tried to imagine how much fun the teenagers were having and i didn’t feel so annoyed anymore.
last year we celebrated pretty much the same as this year: making the most of the long weekend to grill veggies and hang out in the sun.
